We’re all set for another exciting week in the Betfred Super League, as the pressure increases on a few sides who are in need of points to start climbing the table.
The action gets underway on Thursday night as Wigan Warriors entertain bottom club London Broncos. Wigan had a morale boosting victory last time out as a Sam Powell try saw them edge out Castleford 6-4 in tricky conditions. Meanwhile, London Broncos were convincingly beaten by Salford Red Devils at the weekend and will be wary that they need to pick up points in the next few weeks to stay in touch with the teams above them.
Friday sees a quartet of fixtures including second-placed Warrington Wolves’ visit to Castleford after their comprehensive 50-19 victory over Huddersfield Giants where they scored eight tries to Huddersfield’s three.
Huddersfield will be looking to bounce back at home to fourth-placed Wakefield Trinity who have enjoyed a fine season so far and will fancy their chances of a top four finish after seven wins from their first 13 matches.
Another side who have made a strong start to the season are Hull FC and they will be targeting their ninth win of the campaign at home to last year’s Challenge Cup winners Catalans Dragons.
The night’s other fixture sees Leeds Rhinos head to Salford after they defeated Hull HR 28-24 last weekend. Leeds blew Rovers away with four first-half tries to open up a 28-0 but the nerves kicked in late following an indifferent start to the season and they had to hold off a late fightback to claim a priceless victory.
The final game of the weekend sees Hull KR back in action as they host table toppers St Helens who look in daunting form this year. They look a safe bet to finish top of the league and they will be hoping that they don’t come unstuck in the last four again this autumn.
